Bessie Mae Hixon was born May 16, 1901 to William Orion Hixon and his wife Laura Ella Rice, both of Lawrence County, Ohio.
She was the third child of the couple, and the only daughter. Laura's mother died October 12, 1902, in Symmes Twp., Lawrence
County, Ohio. Following her mother's death, William decided that he would keep the two boys, but decided to give Bessie to
a Mr. William Wright, of Springfield to raise. Bessie's biological father apparently did not give up Bessie entirely, as
he went to Springfield to sign Bessie's marriage license since she was only 17 at the time. It has been said that Mr. Wright
was somehow related to one of Bessie's biological parents, but I have yet to prove this statement. The mere fact that Bessie
sometimes referred to "Uncle Wright" may be more in a "friendly" manner than a true family sense. If you
