Springfield, Ohio. L-R, Daniel, Adam, James ALT. The ALT (or AULT) brothers served during the War Between the States from
1861 through 1864 in the 44th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. They then re-enlisted in the 8th Ohio Volunteer Cavalry in 1864 (except
for Adam who was dead). This photo was taken between Sept. 1861 and May 1862.
Daniel Drew ALT (Sgt) married Ellen HINKLE in 1868 (daughter of John & Mary WAY HINKLE), and they had four sons. Daniel
died in 1920 in Springfield. His widow just a few days after. Adam S. ALT (Pvt) killed 23 May 1862, Battle of Lewisburg,
WV. Buried there. Never married, Mother applied for a pension. James (Cpl) died of Meningitis, Beverly WV, Jan
21 1865. He is buried at the Mud Run Cemetery, in Mad River Township, Clark Co., Ohio. Left a widow, Catharine, no surviving
children. The Alt brothers were the children of Adam ALT and Maria DREW, very early settlers of Clark County. You
