In January 1807, Robert, a six month old son of Nancy Mickey McConkey and Archibald McConkey
died. George Metsker and the father of the baby gave land on a hilltop where their farms joined for a cemetery and here the
body was buried.
McConkey Cemetery was the first permanent cemetery in Pleasant Township. Jesse Reese, a
schoolteacher, died in 1810 and was the second person buried in the McConkey Cemetery.
The cemetery is located about 4 miles south east of Catawba on the McConkey Road.
