Springfield, Ohio. L-R, Daniel, Adam, James ALT. The ALT (or AULT) brothers served during the War Between the States from 1861 through 1864 in the 44th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. They then re-enlisted in the 8th Ohio Volunteer Cavalry in 1864 (except for Adam who was dead). This photo was taken between Sept. 1861 and May 1862.

3 Alt Brothers

Daniel Drew ALT (Sgt) married Ellen HINKLE in 1868 (daughter of John & Mary WAY HINKLE), and they had four sons. Daniel died in 1920 in Springfield. His widow just a few days after.

Adam S. ALT (Pvt) killed 23 May 1862, Battle of Lewisburg, WV. Buried there. Never married, Mother applied for a pension.

James (Cpl) died of Meningitis, Beverly WV, Jan 21 1865. He is buried at the Mud Run Cemetery, in Mad River Township, Clark Co., Ohio. Left a widow, Catharine, no surviving children.
